地方耆老對此至今仍討論紛紛。

原因在於20世紀初[大日本製糖株式會社](https://www.facebook.com/photo/?fbid=1090041106933858&set=a.204371305500847)設立糖廠，選擇三處設置地點：土庫竹腳寮、五間厝青埔及斗六街。但土庫在地居民反對徵地，加上戊戌水災形成溪埔地、以及梅山地震使土庫糖廠被震毀，影響糖廠後來設置在五間厝（虎尾）。
