安撫祭慰日治時期被砍10萬大樹之靈。

林保署指出，日本時代、1934年阿里山曾舉辦「[樹靈祭](https://www.ntl.edu.tw/public/Attachment/0851457670.pdf?ref=taitokchi.com)」祭拜因伐木喪失性命的77位台灣工人、日本技師；同時也安撫[被砍伐的10萬株大樹](https://www.agriharvest.tw/archives/8214/?ref=taitokchi.com)。隔年1935年「[樹靈塔](https://digitalarchives.tw/Exhibition/3144/3.html?ref=taitokchi.com)」開始興建。源自於當時伐木工罹怪病死亡、甚至[白米也變成了紅色](https://www.setn.com/news/132015?ref=taitokchi.com)。人心惶惶、有人說是[樹靈作祟](https://tcmb.culture.tw/zh-tw/detail?indexCode=MOCCOLLECTIONS&id=26000334657&ref=taitokchi.com)，還請道士來作法。
